THURSDAY 1st
Micmacs, a fantastical satire on the world arms trade from Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement) opens.
Welcome, the story of a Kurdish refugee in Europe from Philippe Lioret which won Berlin’s Ecumenical Jury Prize, opens.
The Last Station, the Tolstoy biopic from Michael Hoffman (One Fine Day) starring Christopher Plummer, James McAvoy and Hellen Mirren, opens.
La Mirada Film Festival, co-programmed by Pedro Almodovar with guest curators Martin Scorsese and Stephen Daldry, opens tonight and runs until April 11.
Maurice Sendak’s short films are still showing at ACMI until April 10.
The Red Shoes, the 1948 dance drama from Powell and Pressburger (Black Narcissus), finishes its extended season at Astor this Sunday. We wrote about it here.
FRIDAY 2nd
Good Hair, a documentary on the African American community’s hair culture from comedian Chris Rock, begins a three-week season at ACMI.
Until the Light Takes Us, a documentary on the birth of Norway’s black metal scene.
MONDAY 5th
Scarface, the violent 1983 classic of crime films from Brian De Palma (Carrie, Redacted), shows at Astor and was recently remade by school children here. So kawaii!
WEDNESDAY 7th
